LOCAL NEWS

Business and Professional Women CHB will be presenting Wellness for Women again in 2022 with the theme of “Coping with change”. After the success of the event in 2021 the aim this year is to offer a broader range of speakers and exhibitors and get more CHB women along. Mayor Alex Walker will be opening the event and leading the line-up of speakers which includes Haana Wilcox from Te Whare Whananga O Awanuiarangi. Her subject will be kai oranga — “healthy kai” from a Māori world view, explored through the Hua Parakore principles of whakapapa, mauri, mana, wairua, te ao tūroa, māramatanga. Kōrero will include kai sovereignty, maara kai, nutrition, health, humans’ place in the world, and how all of that is connected. Dr Samantha Newman, the FemaleGP, will be talking about her speciality, women’s health. She wants to enable women to understand their changing hormones and the impact they have on the well-being of their mind and body. One area that Dr Samantha is passionate about is helping women with the menopausal transition, as for many this is a time of fear. However, with support it can often be a really positive change. She wants to encourage women to talk about night sweats, mood changes and vaginal symptoms because if active management is needed there are many safe options available. Amiria Nepe-Apatu is the final speaker of the day. She will be talking about her new role with Te Taiwhenua O Tamatea as a connector with the community. Her topic for the day is “Kua huri te tai — The tide has changed”. There will be opportunity to chat with the speakers, ask questions and find out more. Wellness for Women 2022 has 18 exhibitors and stall holders for attendees to talk to, participate in activities and learn about what they have to offer. The menu includes everything from self care for rural women to reiki, Pilates to gut health, weight management to massage, local health services including cervical and breast screening, plus skin analysis and care, goal setting to underwear, exercising for fitness and education (EIT). Carol Reid, self-styled happiness architect from Soulpreneurs, will be MC for the day, introducing speakers and highlighting what is happening, as well as giving away spot prizes. BPW CHB will be hosting a light afternoon tea, with the help of Countdown Waipukurau, and everyone through the door will receive a goody bag from Weleda. Wellness for Women 2022 is planned to be a great afternoon out for every woman, whether she is a mum, sister, daughter or auntie.
