Title for day ‘bend it’, ‘shape it’

Agreat attendance at our May meeting and a welcome was given to Margaret Western, Marlene Render and Zada Coleman whom we hope will join our club. We were delighted with the response to our area day in April and of course with the various achievements of our members. The cup for the person who had created the most entries for the year was awarded to Marion Hunter and as it had only just been found it was given to her at our meeting. We also were given the bell for the most entries on the day to be shared with Morrinsville. Prior to our shared lunch we welcomed back Kay Savage who had recently undergone knee surgery and wished her a happy 80th birthday with a surprise cake. Pat Nairn from Tauranga was our tutor for the day and also our judge. The title for the day was “bend it, shape it” and the results were – Senior: First Kerry Bowden, second Doreen Spain; Premier: First Yvonne Bartlett, second Diane Connelly-cook, third Dorothy Baker and Supreme: First Lois Bourne, second Vicky Youngman, third Pam Moore (whose design was the most innovative). The afternoon workshop was very interesting. We had been asked to prepare a large ball made either with willow or twine. With the aid of two pieces of bamboo the ball was positioned on bamboo rods. Test tubes were inserted and suitable flowers put into them. A delightful design was the ultimate result. A great day was had by all. —
